Other games have had your choices feed back into the world itself of course, even The Witcher 3, but Dying Light 2 is doing it on a scale IвЂ™ve never seen before. Specifically, La Puerta, a shady black market area that sells basically anything you could ask for (and a lot of things you shouldnвЂ™t). Of course, youвЂ™re profiting off other peopleвЂ™s misery, with poorer residents dying of thirst in the street. Joe and Jack sell their water, making a tidy bundle-and cutting you in on the deal too. Turn against the Peacekeepers, and they abandon the district. On the other hand, itвЂ™d be martial law essentially. The Peacekeepers would also be more willing to work with us in the future. Water from the tower would be handed out to residents for free, windmills erected, and the Infected threat pushed back. If we decided to align with them, kill off Joe and Jack, the district would become a more peaceful and orderly place. At this point, trotting out Avellone is shorthand for вЂњWeвЂ™re taking our writing seriously.вЂќ ThatвЂ™s the only conclusion I can draw from having Chris Avellone be the one to announce the game at MicrosoftвЂ™s E3 press conference Sunday. The story is key though, and Techland knows it. It felt a bit like MirrorвЂ™s Edge or Prince of Persia, trying to work out pa route to get from ground to rooftop without falling to your death. We were also shown a вЂњParkour Puzzle,вЂќ as Techland calls it, this one inside a water tower. For instance, you can now swing on ropes, slide down billboards, and even wall-run. ThereвЂ™s a lot I could talk about here, including even more options for melee combat and traversal than the previous game. Techland seems to have heard the feedback. It hits all the beats itвЂ™s вЂsupposedвЂ™ to hit and nothing more.вЂќДЄ year later, The Following expansion made good on some of Dying LightвЂ™s promise, with a much more interesting conceit (sentient volatiles!) and more personality for protagonist Kyle Crane.

As I said at the time: вЂњItвЂ™s not even a bad story, but itвЂ™s predictable from start to finish. But it was a great game with a fairly weak story.
